Eurovision 2023 host city race: BBC reveals the seven shorlisted cities

The British national broadcaster, BBC, revealed this morning the seven cities that remain in the Eurovision 2023 host city bidding race.
As soon as it was confirmed that the UK will be hosting the next Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine, a total of 20 cities queued up expressing their inteterest to host the next competition.
However, out of these 20 cities only seven made it to the next round of the bidding race. Namely the cities shorltliste by BBC are:
In the next stage of the host city selection the BBC along with EBU will be reviewing the bidding books of all seven candidate cities and will be looking into the details that a host city should meet in order to be in position to host the major event and will go on with a new updated list sometine in September.
The BBC has published the following statement regarding the host city race process:
"Today the BBC confirmed the outcome of the first stage of the Host City bidding process for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in the United Kingdom in 2023.
The BBC had expressions of interest from 20 cities, across all four Nations of the UK. All applicants demonstrated how they would reflect Ukrainian culture, music and communities to mark the fact that Ukraine are the winners of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Seven cities have been shortlisted based on their ability to meet a set of minimum requirements that demonstrate they have the capacity, capability and experience to host an event of this scale and complexity. Given the short period of time available until the event will be staged, the selection process was heavily weighted towards demonstrating past experience in hosting major international events, as well as being able to demonstrate their credentials in hosting a celebration of contemporary music.
The Host City selection process is a two-stage process and these seven cities will now go through to the second and final stage, where they will be asked to develop their bids in more detail. The selection of the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be decided by the BBC in conjunction with the EBU, and the successful city will be announced in the Autumn.
The final decision on the winning Host City will be determined by which city or region scores highest against an agreed evaluation criteria, assessed by the BBC. These criteria include: having a suitable venue and sufficient space to deliver the requirements of the Song Contest; the commitment that can be made by a city or region to hosting the event, including the financial contribution; the strength of the cultural offer which includes off screen local and regional activity as well as showcasing Ukrainian culture and music; and alignment with the BBC’s strategic priorities as a public service broadcaster, such as providing value to all audiences and supporting the creative economy in the UK."
EBU's requirements for hosting Eurovision
In order for a city to host the Eurovision SOng Contest in 2022 it must meet a specific number of requirements. Namely the host city must have:

An international airport no more than 90 minutes from the city.

Over 2,000 hotel rooms in the area close to the event.

An infrastructure (stadium/venue/centre) capable of hosting a large-scale live broadcast with the minimum requirements listed below.
In addtion the infrastructure should:

Be indoors with air-conditioning and have a well defined perimeter;

Have an audience capacity in the main hall of around 8,000 – 10,000 during the event (which corresponds to 70% of maximum capacity of that venue for regular concerts, taking into consideration the specific stage and production needs of the Eurovision Song Contest);

Have a main hall with the capacity to house the set and all other requirements needed to produce a high level broadcast production (this includes good specifications of load capacity in the roof, clearance to low beams, easy load in access, etc);

Have ample space within easy access of the main hall to support additional production needs, such as: a press centre, delegation spaces, dressing rooms, artist facilities, staff facilities, hospitality, audience facilities, etc;

Be available exclusively for 6 weeks before the event, 2 weeks during the show (which will take place in May) and a week after the end of the event for dismantling.
The host city selection is expected to conclude sometime in autumn between September and October.
