Junior Eurovision 2022: Yerevan to host the contest at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex

  • The Armenian capital city of Yerevan will be hosting the 20th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex.

    The Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, confirmed during a cabinet meeting on February 17 that Yerevan will be the host city of Junior Eurovision 2022, with the competition taking place at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex. In addition the Primen Minister that the essential financial back up has been secured in order for the preparations to start. 

     

     

    About the venue

    Officially Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex also known as Demirchyan ArenaSports & Music Complex, or simply Hamalir (for complex in Armenian), is a large sports and concert complex with 184 stairs leading up Tsitsernakaberd hill which dominates over the western parts of Yerevan, near the Hrazdan River gorge.

    It is also familiar to the Eurovision audience as it hosted the Junior Eurovision 2011 when Armenia. In August 2015 the government of Armenia decided to sell the complex to a private firm with plans to renovate the complex and turn it into a "family-oriented center".

    The complex has a unique design, an outside view of the whole construction reminds the shape a big bird opening its wings. Its architectural concepts include a turning tribune of 1,008 seats, that can rapidly connect the two big halls to reveal additional seating

    The complex consists of the following halls:

    • The main arena used for sporting events and concerts with a capacity of 6,000 seats, expandable to 8,800 seats.
    • The concerts hall with a capacity 1,900 seats.
    • The sports hall with a capacity of 2,000 seats.
    • Hayastan conference hall.
    • Argishti hall for diplomatic meetings,
    • Large foyer used for exhibitions and other events.

    Already, the EBU officials and the Aremenian broadcaster APMTV, have held their first meetings and preparations for the 20th edition of the contest have commenced. 

    Armenia will be hosting the next edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after last year's victorious participation in Paris with Malena Fox who brought the trophy home sinigng 'Qami Qami'
