Portugal: Iolanda wins Festival da Canção 2024 and is heading to Eurovision 2024 with 'Grito'

Ioland is the winner of Festival da Canção 2024 singing 'Grito' and will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2024 in Malmo, Sweden.
Confirming the bookies' predictions that want her win the Portuguese national selection for Eurovision 2024, ioland won the competition and is Portugal's 2024 hopeful in Malmo.
After two semi-final rounds the 56th Festival da Canção concluded with the final show. Portugal this year is completing 60 years in the Eurovision family and has one more reason to celebrate.
Filomena Cautela & Vasco Palmeirim had the honor to host this year's final show while Inês Lopes Gonçalves was corrensponding from the Green room.
The competing entries
A total of 12 acts gave the battle for the right to represent the country in Eurovision 2024:
1. Silk Nobre – “Change”
2.Rita Onofre – “Criatura”
3. Noble – “Memory”
4. Buba Espinho – “O Farol”
5. Nena – “Teorias da Conspiração”
6. Iolanda – “Grito”
7. No Maka ft Ana Maria – “Aceitar”
8. Cristina Clara – “Primavera”
9. Rita Rocha – “Pontos Finais”
10. Léo Middea – “Doce Mistério”11. Perpétua – “Bem Longe Daqui”
12. João Borsch – “Pelas Costuras”
Once the competing performances were completed and before the results were announced last year's winner and Portuguese Eurovision 2023 hopeful, Mimicat delivered on stage her entry “Ai Coração” which finished 22nd in the Grand final.
The results
The outcome of the final was determined by a combination of jury and public voting (50% share each). The jury voting will include seven regional juries which namely are:
- Alentejo
- Algarve
- Azores
- Centro
- Lisboa e Vale do Tejo
- Madeira
- Norte
Once all regional jury voted were taken into account this is how the jury score turned out:
Ioland topped the juries' vote with 80 points followed by Doce Misterio in second place with 57 points and O Farol third with a total of 46 points.
The public vote followed with Joao Borsch coming first, Ioland second and Doce Misterio third. However, the combination of the two voting delacred winner of the Festival Da Cacao 2024 Ioland with her song 'Grito'. Here is the overall scorebaord one the public vote was added in:
A few words for Iolanda
Iolanda Costa, born 4 November 1994, known as Iolanda, is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. She became known for her participation in the first season of the program Uma canção para ti, broadcast by TVI in December 2008.
olanda was born in 1994 in Figueira da Foz, but she moved to Pombal as a child. From an early age she revealed a great passion for music, and her vocation did not go unnoticed by her parents, who sent her to study music at Tecnimúsica, a school in Pombal, and later at the Conservatory.
After her participation in Uma canção para ti, in 2012, at the age of 17, she tried her luck again on a television program, this time in the 5th season of Ídolos, on SIC, but did not reach the live gala stage.
In 2014, Iolanda took to the stage of the Blind Tests of the second season of The Voice Portugal, on RTP1, but her performance of "Who You Are", by Jessie J, failed to impress any of the four mentors.In 2022, she made her debut at Festival da Canção, the Portuguese selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, as co-author and co-composer of the song "Mar no fim", performed by Blacci. In 2023, Iolanda released her first EP, entitled Cura, which she wrote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ioland will compete in the second half of the 1st semi-final show in Malmo Arena on May 7, 2024.
