Germany: ARD releases the Unser Lied für Liverpool 2023 competing entries

  • The German national broadcaster, ARD, has released the acts competing in the upcoming Unser Lied für Liverpool, the show that will determine the country's Eurovision 2023 hopeful. 

    The Germany national final for Eurovision 2023 'Unser Lied für Liverpool' is set to take place  22:20 CET on March 3 in the MMC Studios in Cologne, aired on ARD and streamed via eurovision.de and ARD Mediathek. The show will be hosted by Barbara Schöneberger. 

     

    These are the eight acts that will be competing in 'Unser Lied für Liverpool' and you can hear the songs by clicking on the titles. 

     

    In addition to the acts currently selected, a TikTok wildcard will also be selected to participate. Wildcard will be selected through a public vote, open from today until February 3. The results of the TikTok wildcard vote will be announced live on the new online show Alles Eurovision on 4 February at 18:00 CET on eurovision.de hosted by Alina Stiegler and Stefan Spiegel.

    Germany in Eurovision

    Germany is one of the  Big-5 countries and qualifies directly to the Eurovision Grand final. The country has participated in every edition of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1956, with one year’s exception back in 1996.  The country has won the competition twice, namely in 1982 and 2010.

    Ben Dolic was internally selected to represent Germany at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam with his entry Violent Thing. Unfortunately young act never had the chance to complete his Eurovision journey as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic.

    Last year Jendrick Sigwart defended the German colors in Rotterdam with his song 'I don't feel hate'. Jendrik finished 25th in the final, marking Germany's second in a row 2nd last placing, receiving only 3 points from the juries and zero points from the public voting. This year Malick Harris won the national final and flew the flag in Turin singing 'Rockstars' which sadly finished in the last place.
