Finland: The Rasmus win UMK 2022 and will fly the flag at Eurovision 2022

  • The group Rasmus won the Finnish national final of UMK 2022 and will be representing Finland at Eurovision 2022 singing "Jezebel".

    Finland determined once again their Eurovision hopeful through the national final format of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) returned to Logomo arena in Turku after a two year break, as the show was hosted in the Mediapolis Studios in Tampere the last two editions.

    The show was by Vesala and Mmiisas. The show opened last year's representative's Blind Channel who performed their ESC entry 'Dark Side',  while  Vesala and JVG appreared during the show as guests. The competition saw a total of seven acts compete on stage for the ticket to Turin.

    The results

    The results was determined by international juries (25%) and public voting (75%). First were announced the results from the International juries with the scoreboard turning out as following:

    Next were added the results of the televoting which once they were counted brought Rasmus on the top of the scoreboard securing them their spot at Eurovision 2022.

    A few words for Rasmus

    The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band that formed in 1994 in Helsinki while the band members were in upper comprehensive school.The original band members were Lauri Ylönen (lead singer-songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Jarno Lahti (drums). Jarno Lahti left the year after and was replaced by Janne Heiskanen in 1995. Heiskanen quit the band in 1998 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala. Pauli Rantasalmi left the band and was replaced by Emppu Suhonen in 2022.

    The Rasmus has sold 5 million albums worldwide, and about 350,000 albums in Finland alone. They have won numerous awards, both domestic and international. They are best known for their 2003 hit single "In the Shadows".

    The UMK winning entry Jezebel was written in just a few hours based on Ylönen’s demo and was finlised in collaboration with world renowned producer-musician Desmond Child.

    Rasmus will compete in the first half of the 2nd Semi final show on May 12 in Turin, Italy..
