Italy: Raffaella Carrà passes away at the age of 78

• Sad news for world of music as the iconic Italian pop star, actress, dancer and tv presenter, Raffaella Carrà,  passed away this afternoon at the age of 78.  

  The death of one of the most prominent figures of song and television in Italy (and also in Spain) has been reported by her ex-partner Sergio Lapino: “Raffaella has left us. She has gone to a better world, where her humanity, her unmistakable laugh and extraordinary talent will shine forever, “he said.

  She died at 16.20 today 5 July after an illness that had long since attacked her body but which she had taken care to keep hidden from her public. The last gesture of respect for those who followed and loved her, choosing to keep for themselves the hard ordeal that characterized the last period of her intense life.

   

  A few words for Raffaella

  Raffaella Carrà, stage name of  Raffaella Maria Roberta Pelloni  was born in Bologna on June 18, 1943, was 78 years old and has been a showgirl, singer, dancer, actress, television and radio host and television author in Italy and Spain. She was a popular figure in Europe and Latin America, both as a result of her many well-known taped presentations and records, and because of her many popular TV shows.

  Carrà debuted in cinema at age nine, in Tormento del passato (1952). She did five other movies until 1960. In 1965, she moved to the United States signing with 20th Century Fox. As Carrà, she starred in the motion picture Von Ryan's Express (1965) with Frank Sinatra, Edward Mulhare, and Trevor Howard.

  Since 1961, Carrà has sung and danced on the variety shows of Italian television. In particular, since the early 1970s, they have contained elaborate choreography, mesmerizing elaborate themes, and her uninhibited style. Carrà had a hit song with the sensual Tuca Tuca (1971), written for her singing and dancing television presentations by her long-time collaborator and former boyfriend, Gianni Boncompagni. Her greatest international hit single was Tanti Auguri (Best Wishes), which has become a popular song with gay audiences. "A far l'amore comincia tu" (To make love, your move first) was another success for her internationally.

  She hosted Sanremo in 2001 and presented the Italian votes 10 years later at Eurovision in Düsseldorf. In addition, she was a coach on The Voice of Italy for a few seasons. Recently she was mentioned among the potential hosts for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Italy.
