Tonight: Festival di Sanremo 2024 kicks off with Night One in Italy

The iconic Italian music competition of Festival di Sanremo kicks off this evening with the first night of the show that will determine the Italian entry for Eurovision 2024.
The 74th edition of Festival di Sanremo will start unfolding tonight at Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and will keep us company up to Saturday with the Grand final show. Hosting the contest this evening is Amadeus joined by last year's winner Marco Mengoni, who represented Italy at Eurovision 2013 and 2023.
A total of 30 competing artists will deliver on stage their songs for the first time. All the songs will be voted on by a jury made up by professional journalists from television and web outlets.

Among the contestant a few familiar names to the Eurovision audience as the participated in the past in the contest. Namely, Ricchi e Poveri (1978), Emma (2014), Il Volo (2015), Mahmood (2019, 2022) and Diodato (2020) are the past ESC participants that are making a comeback and an addtional attempt to reach the Eurovision stage again. Notably, Mahmood has participated twice in Sanremo and won both times the competition securing his Eurovision participation in 2019 ( Soldi) and in 2022 ( Turin ) alongside Blanco (Brividi).
