Portugal:  Nicolas Alves releases his Junior Eurovision 2022 entry 'Anos 70'

  • Portugal's Junior Eurovision 2022 hopeful, Nicolas Alves, has released his song for Yerevan titled 'Anos 70's. 

    Nicolas Alves has been selected this year to fly the flag for Portugal at Junior Eurovision 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia on December 11. The young talented act released his song for the contest titled 'Anos 70' which in English translate 'The 70's'. 

    The Portuguese entry has been penned by  Carolina Deslandes and along with the song the official music video was released. 

     

     

    A few words for Nicolas

    Nicolas Alves is 13 years old and although he comes from Torres Vedras. He lives with his parents and his brothers.The parents' family is Brazilian, but he was born in England which he left at the age of 10.

    He started singing when he was four. At 8, he began singing at music school in England.As a kid, I watched videos of Michael Jackson and Fred Mercury and always thought I wanted to be a singer like them.In his spare time he likes to play guitar and play with his brothers.

    The audience got to know him better with his participation in the Voice Kids Portugal wheere he saw three chairs turninng for him in the blind auditions and him joining Carolina Deslandes' team. In the final show he performed impressively the song 'Beggin'. 

     

    Portugal in Junior Eurovision

    Debuting in 2006, Portugal has a total of six participations in the contest in the edition of 2006-2007 and 2017-2019, with the best result being the 14th place of Pedro Madeira and Mariana Venâncio in 2006 and 2017, respectively. 

    In 2019 in Gliwice, the country was represented by Joana Almeida and "Vem comigo (Come with Me)", finishing in 16th place with 43 points, all from the online vote.In 2020 although RTP initially announced that it will take part in Junior Eurovision in Warsaw, the ongoing covid-19 pandemic and the implemented restrictions forced the broadcaster to quit from the 2020 participation. 

    Last year the Voice Kids winner, Simão Oliveira, flew the flag in Paris singing “O Rapaz” which finished in the impressive 3rd place in the online voting bringing an 11th overall place for Portugal which marks their best results up to date.
