Malta: TVM unveils the 12 contestants of the Junior Eurovision 2021 national final

The Maltese broadcaster, TVM, has unveiled the 12 finalists that will compete in the Maltese national final for Junior Eurovision 2021.
This year Malta Junior Eurovision Content, the show that will determine the Maltese Junior Eurovision 2021 representative, saw a substantial increase in the number of applications. That's why TVM decided to split the process in two, with more jurors sifting through the submitted songs.
In the first phase of this process, a number of expert jurors listened to all the songs and decided to shorlist the first 20 finalists. The selection continued with a second phase in which an addtional evaluation took place by a different jury made up of a local and international jurors.
Thus, TVM revealed today the 12 acts that made it through the national final that will take place on October 16, 2021. The contestants of MJESC 2021 are:
- Eksenia Sammut – Building
- Yulan Law – Change
- Amelia Kalabic – Dear World
- Rih & Bri – Drops like fire
- Kylie Milcallef – Keep Your Drama
- Ella Tohamy – Limitless
- Marija Djinovic – Magic
- Emma Briffa – My Angels Calling
- Ike Mizzie & Kaya Gouder Curmi – My Home
- Yulan Law – On My Way
- Myca, Kylie & Denzel Jo – Running Free
- Maria Curmi – Wild and Free

Among the entries we notice that Yulan Law will be competing with two songs, from which the song 'On my Why' has been penned by Amber who represented Malta in Vienna, Austria ar Eurovision 2015.
Malta in Junior Eurovision
Malta is one of the most succeful nations in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, having won already twice: in 2013 with Gaia Cauchi and her entry “The Start” , and in 2015 with Destiny Chukunyere singing “Not My Soul,”. The nation debuted in the competition at the first contest back in 2003, and has only missed two editions, in 2011 and 2012. Since then apart from the two victories it has accomplished six times to finish in the top 10 spots on the scorebaoard.
In JESC 2019 Eliana Gomez Blanco represented Malta in Gliwice- Silesia with “We Are More”, and came 19th with a totlal of 29 points.
Last year the national final winner, Chanel Monseigneur , flew the flag in Warsaw with her song "Chasing Sunsets" which finished 8th with a total of 100 points.
