Kazakhstan: David Charlin selected for Junior Eurovision 2022

  • Kazakhstan has decided! David Charlin will be the act to fly the flag at the upcoming Junior Eurovision this December in Yerevan, Armenia. 

    Kazakhstan selected their Junior Eurovision 2022 hopeful through the Baqytty Bala 2022 (Happy Child) children’s vocal competition. The event took place this afternoon at 15:30 CET and was aired live by Khabar Tv. 

    A total of 22 contestants took part in today's show who performed on stage before a jury of music professionals from across the country, which determined the outcome of the comeptition. The contest brought together children from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Spain, Armenia, and Turkey. Apart from the ticket to Junior Eurovision several young participants received special prizes, diplomas, and certificates.

    Namely the acts that competed in the national final show were:

    The jury declared as winner of the competition and next Junior Eurovision representative the 11-year-old Kazakh artist from Almaty, David Charlin who stated on his instagram account after his victory: 

    “Thank you all for congratulations! What happened yesterday is more like a dream or a fairy tale, and I haven’t fully realized what happened yet. But I am incredibly pleased to realize that so many people have supported me.”

    Kazakhstan in Junior Eurovision 

    Kazakhstan debuted at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 after EBU’s invitation to broadcaster, Khabar Agency, to join the contest. The country was represented by the national final winner,  Daneliya Tuleshova and her entry “Ózińe sen” which finished in 5th place at the competition held in Minsk, Belarus. 

    In 2019 12-year-old Yerzhan Maksim defended the Kazakh colors in Gliwice- Silesia in Poland and after delivering a stunning vocally performance of his entry, Armanyńnan Qalma achieved to top the jury voting and finish 2nd ion the overall scoreboard.

    In 2020 Karakat Bashanova won the national final and represented the country with her song 'Forever' in Warsaw, Poland  achieving to finish 2nd with 152 points in the overall score. 

    Last year Alinur Khamzin and Beknur Zhanibekuly represented Kazakhstan at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris with the song “Ertegı älemı (Fairy World)”. The duo finished 8th with a total of 121 points.
