The Netherlands: Junior Songfestival 2020 final to be held in Rotterdam Ahoy; Competing bands' names unveiled

  • The final of the Junior Songfestival  will take place this year on September 26 in Rotterdam Ahoy. AVROTROS reports this in a press release on Monday. Meanwhile the group names of the contestants have been revealed. 

    According to the AVROTROS press release the national final of Junior Songfestival 2020 that will determine the Dutch act at Junior Eurovision 2020 in Poland, is set to take place in Rotterdam Ahoy on September 26. This will be the first time the national final is taking place in Rotterdam Ahoy, which had hosted Junior Eurovision back in 2007. 

    With the covid-19 being eased until July 1, AVROTROS reports in the press release that it has been decided that only family members may come to watch the performances of the children. AVROTROS calls it "irresponsible to have so many children from all over the Netherlands come together singing, dancing and screaming".

    The show will be hosted by Buddy Vedder and Romy Monteiro.

     

    Group Names unveiled

    Just a month ago the Dutch broadcaster had released the names of  the 11 candidates of Junior Songfestival 2020 . The 11 finalists were split up in a total of four acts,  one solo artist, one duo , a boy band and a girl band. Now thw boy band's and girl band's names are out !  

    The names were proposed by the Dutch audience with the candidates chosing one out of them. The two bands are  T-Square (Thimo, Tyrone, Thijs & Teddy) and  Unity (Maud, Jayda, Naomi & Demi)Watch below how they presented their names to the public on Instagram: 

     

     

    On the way to the national final the Junior Songfestival contstants are releasing on the official Junior Songfestival Youtube Channel video introducing themselves in order for the audience to get to know them better before the final event. 

     

    The Netherlands in Junior Eurovision

    The Netherlands has been participating in the contest since day 1 in 2003 and haven’t missed a year. In 2009 they won the competition and have achieved nine times to finish in the top 10 places. The country’s worst place came in 2015 when it finished 15th. In 2019 the country was represented by the duo Max & Anne and their entry Samen, which finished in 13th place with 91 points.

    Last year, Matheu represented the nation in Gliwice with his song "Dans met jou" which finished in the 4th place with 186 points.
