Malta : It's Chanel Monseigneur for Junior Eurovision 2020

  • Chanel Monseigneur will be representing Malta on the 29th November at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

    The Maltese national broadcaster, TVM, has announced that Chanel Monseigneur will be defending the nation's color in Warsaw for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The winner of the national selection was determined 50% by public voting and 50% by jury voting. 

    The jury of the selection was formed by Eliana Gomez Blanco ( Malta JESC 2019) , Michaela Pace ( Malta ESC 2019) and Dominic Cini ( Singer and composer) . 

    The finalists of the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 along with the songs performed were:

    • Leah Mifsud - Anywhere
    • Isaac Tom - Beside Me
    • Mariah Cefai - Change the Silence
    • Chanel Monseigneur - Chasing Sunsets
    • Yulan Law and Gianluca Cilia - Deck of Cards
    • Kaya Gouder Curmi - Made of Stars
    • Emma Cutajar - Modern-Day Cinderella
    • Anneka Xerri - Moving
    • Zaira Mifsud and Eksenia Sammut - Only Live Once
    • Michela Caruana - Replay
    • Mychael Bartolo Chircop - The Child From Inside

    Once the votes from the two bodies were added the results delcared Chanel Monseigneur  with her entry Chasing Sunsets  winner leaving behind Leah Mifsud while 3rd came Mychael Bartolo Chircop. 

     

    A few words about Chanel 

    Chanel was born on the 2nd of January 2011 and lives in Mosta. It was at an early age that she showed interest and passion for singing. Her first singing and music theory lesson was 3 years ago but she always showed interest in learning the piano, so she added piano lessons last year. 

    Chanel started participating in various local competitions where she was always praised and encouraged to keep on nourishing her talent. Last December she was awarded as the ‘Best Singer of The Year’ in a local competition. 

    In 2018 she participated in her first-ever international competition held in Lithuania (Music Talent League) achieving a 1st place in her age group. Last summer she also had the opportunity to participate in ‘Talent World Contest’ (Italy) and in ‘Riga Symphony’ (Latvia) last December, placing 1st in both competitions with only a few marks away from winning the Gran Prix award.

    Her winning song, Chasing Sunsets has been written by Emil Calleja Bayliss and composed by her own cousin Aleandro Spiteri Monseigneur, Peter Borg and Joe Roscoe from Red Electrick!
