Junior Eurovision 2023: 21st edition set for November 26 in Nice

• The EBU and France Télévisions has announced that the 21st edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place in Nice, France on November 26, 2023.

  EBU and France Télévisions has confirmed that Nice will be the host city of Junior Eurovision 2023. The 21st edition of the compeittion will take place on November 26 at Palais Nikaïa.

  This marks the second time France will be hosting the contest. Back in 2021 the competition took place in the capital city, Paris.

   

  Alexandra Redde-Amiel, Head of Delegation for France at Junior Eurovision, said:

  “In 2023, the adventure starts again. What an honour to have the chance to organize and produce the one of the greatest European musical shows once again in France alongside the EBU, all the delegations and all the young artists! The Junior Eurovision Song Contest shows how much cultural and musical power our new generations have in the world.

  Finally, we are extremely lucky to be welcomed by the City of Nice, the famous and iconic “French Riviera”, with its international aura. We’re incredibly grateful to Mayor Christian Estrosi and his team.”

   

  Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, stated:

The team at France Télévisions have the experience, vision, and passion to create something truly magical in Nice this November and we look forward to working with them in the coming months on another exciting show.”

   

  About the venue

  Palais Nikaïa is an indoor concert hall and multi-purpose facility located in Nice, France. It opened on 4 April 2001, and is located five minutes' drive from Côte d'Azur International Airport. The name Nikaïa derives from the ancient Greek settlement, predecessor of today's Nice. In addition to concerts, Palais Nikaïa can host variety shows, sporting events and conventions.

  On its own, Palais Nikaïa has seats for between 1,500 and 6,250 persons depending upon configuration, with an upwards maximum of 9,000 capacity including those standing. However, in a unique arrangement, it is located next to the outdoor Stade Charles-Ehrmann, with sliding glass doors to operate between them, and the two in combination can be used to host very large concerts with up to 50,000 or more in attendance.

  Depeche Mode performed at the concert hall on May 4, 2013, during their Delta Machine Tour, in front of a sold-out crowd of 9,904 people. The venue hosted the 2013 Jeux de la Francophonie which took place in Nice from 6 to 15 September 2013. The disciplines practiced in this venue were judo and freestyle wrestling.

   

  France in Junior Eurovision

  France participated in the Junior Eurovision first time in 2004, when Thomas Pontier represented the country with “Si on voulait bien”  and finished 6th . After that edition the country withdrew and stayed absent until the 2018 edition, when they returned with Angélina and the song Jamais Sans Toi which finished in the honorable 2nd place with 203 points.

  In 2019 the nation was represented by Carla who 5th place in Gliwice, with the song “Bim Bam Toi”.  In the  2020 edition of the compeition in Warsaw, Poland Valentina's winning performance of 'J'Imagine'  that brought the trophy to France for the first time.

  In 2021 Enzo represented the nation on home soil in Paria performing in 'La Seine Musicale' the song 'Tic-Tac' which finished in the honorable 3rd place receiving a total of 187 points. 

  Last year Lissandro singing "Oh Maman" won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with a total of 203 points.
