Spain: Carlos Higes chosen for Junior Eurovision 2022

Spain has decided internally to send Carlos Higes to represent the nation at Junior Eurovision 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The Spanish broadcaster held special auditions to determine their Junior Eurovision 2022 hopeful. With the submission period opened from August 16 at 12:00 CEST up to September 15 at 23:59 CEST, RTVE received online from interested acts a video of two performances. |
A face-to-face casting followed in which 10 boys and girls have participated, selected from a total of 95 who presented themselves to the open casting in August by RTVEThe committee came down to Carlos Higes as the next Junior Eurovision representative.
A few words for Carlos
Carlos Higes (15/09/2011) is a singer, actor and model born in Valencia who has just turned 11. A child of innate talent, cheerful, funny and hardworking who dreams of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since he was 4 years old, when Jamala won the trophy at Eurovision 2016. He is a fan of Justin Bieber and Sebastián Yatraand, among the Eurovision,Chanel and Blas Cantó, our last representatives in the European music contest.
A good student, he loves languages and speaking English and his favorite subjects are Natural Sciences, Language and French. After school, where he attends 6th grade, he plays futsal and continues his artistic training with singing and piano lessons. He has participated in several talent contests on television ('Idol Kids', 'La Voz'), and has also made forays into the world of fashion and acting.
The young talened act stated after his selection:
"I did not believe it. I pinched myself to see if it was real. I'm in a bubble," he said after learning that he will perform in Armenia on December 11."
The Song Selection
After choosing the artist, RTVE has launched the process of selecting the most suitable song for Carlos Higes to shine on the stage of Junior Eurovision in Yerevan. So far RTVE has received a total of 247 songs to participate in Armenia. During this month of October, the song and video clip of the theme chosen for the festival will be recorded, which RTVE will deliver to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) before November 4.
Spain in Junior Eurovision
Spain has a total of five participations in the youth competition and has achieved remarkable results in its short history. The country counts a victory thanks to "Antes muerta que sencilla" (Before dead than simple) by María Isabel (2004) , two second places ( Sergio, in 2003 and Antonio José, in 2005 ) and a fourth position ( Dani Fernández, in 2006 ).
Spain returned to the competition in the 2019 edition after 13 years of absence and did it with an impressive. The young talented act starred in a memorable performance with "Marte" (Mars) on the stage of Gliwice-Silesia and achieved to finish in 3rd place. In 2020 the nation was represented by Soleá who performed the song 'Palante' which finished thrid on the overall scoreboard with 133 points.
Last year Levi Diaz was selected to fly the flag in Paris with his song 'Reir' which eventually finished in the 15th place with 77 points which marked the first non top-5 placing for Spain in his JESC history.
