Junior Eurovision 2021: Lithuania will not make a comeback in this year's edition

  • The Lithuanian broadcaster, LRT, has ruled out any chance of returning to Junior Eurovision this year in the contest in Paris, France. 

    Lithuania's Head of Delegation Audrius Giržadas has confirmed to Eurofestivales  that the Baltic country will stay away from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 also.

    Justifying the decision Mr. Giržadas stated that the costs of participation in this contest for the LRT are quite high, while the audience they obtain is too low for that price.

     

     

    Lithuania in Junior Eurovision 

    Lithuania has participated in the competition a total of four time, first entering at the 2007 Contest in Rotterdam, with  Lina Jurevičiūtė, a.k.a. Lina Joy, with the song "Kai miestas snaudžia", who finished 13th in the contest.

    The country us as their national selection process  the show Mažųjų žvaigždžių ringas (Young Stars Ring), in which young singers aged 10–15 took part with self-written songs.

    In The 2008 the Baltic nation achieved its best results with the entry of Eglė Jurgaitytė titled "Laiminga diena", which ended third for Lithuania at the 2008 Contest in Limassol.

    After two years of participating LRT withdrew due to financial reasons from the festival in 2009. But they returned in 2010. That year LRT sent Bartas with the song "Oki Doki". It placed 6th out of 14 participants. They also participated in 2011 and sent Paulina Skrabytė with the song "Debesys" which placed 10th.

    In 2012, the country withdrew again due to expenses. Lithuania has not returned to the contest since.
