Armenia: Junior Eurovision 2021 entry "Qami Qami" released

Armenia: Junior Eurovision 2021 entry

  • The song that the Armenian hopeful, Malena Fox,  will be performing at Junior Eurovision 2021, "Qami Qami", has been released. 

    The song  was composed by tokionine who was also behind Armenia’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 “Walking Out”. The song has been penned  by Vahram Petrosyan, tokionine, Maléna and David Tserunyan.

    In 2020 Armemia had initially confirmed their participation in Junior Eurovision 2020 earlier in November the national broadcaster, APMTV, announced  that the country will not eventually take part due to the ongoing conflict in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) and the martial law imposed in the country. 

    Thus, the broadcaster has invited Malena back for Junior Eurovision 2021 giving her the chance to complete her Junior Eurovision jounrney this year with the song 'Qami Qami'. 

     

    A few words for Malena

    Maléna Fox is a 14-year-old singer from Armenia. Since early 2020, she has teamed up with the small record label TKN based in the capital city of Yerevan. 

    TKN was founded by record producer tokionine who was behind the compisition and co-wrote her cancelled Junior Eurovision 2020 entry, "Why".  He previously produced “Walking Out”, Armenia’s Eurovision 2019 entry performed by Srbuk.

    Maléna has also released on her Youtube channel two cover videos. One is of “Broken Clocks”, originally performed by American singer SZA. The other reelase is a stripped-back mashup of a number of hit R’n’B songs, including Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and The Weeknd’s “Heartless”.

    Taking into account her work so far she seems to favour R’n’B songs as an artist. 

     

    Armenia in Junior Eurovision 

    Armenia participated first time in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. The country has scored remarkable successive results as it has achieved a top 3 placing 7 times . Armenia won the contest back in 2010 with  Vladimir Arzumanyan with his song Mama. Even on their first participation, the country almost won the competition with  Arevik and her song Erazanq which finshed just one point from the top. The worst result came in 2008 with the entry Im Ergi Hnchyune, performed by Monica Manucharova, who finished 8th.

    In 2018 national final winner, L.E.V.O.N, represented the country with his entry L.E.V.O.N which finished 9th in the final that took place at Minsk Arena, Belarus. Last year the landlocked country was represented by Karina Ignatyan and her song 'Colours of your Dream' which finished 9th with 115 points. 

    After 13 editions of consecutive appearances in Junior Eurovision, since 2007 they debuted in the contest, Armenia withdrew for the first time last year from the competition.
