Poland: “Szansa na Sukces” paritcipants go public

  • The participants of Szansa na Sukces the show that will determine Poland Eurovision act and entry, have gone public and now we know who the Polish candidates are for Eurovision 2020 .

    THE FORMAT

    The show consists of 3 semi final rounds, during which we will see 7 acts compete. In each show there will be a special guest, some songs of which will be performed by the competing acts. A special three member jury formed by past Eurovision participants, Cleo (Poland 2014), Michał Szpak (Poland 2016) and Gromee (Poland 2018) , will determine which act will be the winner of each show and qualify to the final.

    During the final show the three candidates will perform two songs, one cover of a well known song and one song they want to perform at Eurovision. The final winner will be selected by public and jury voting.

    Round 1 ( February 2)

    It’s time for ABBA the band that conquered Europe and the world with their song Waterloo . During the first episode, there will also be other hits, such as Voulez-Vous, Mamma Mia or Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight). The 7 acts to compete in this qualifying round are:

    Sargis Davtyan
    Maja Hyży

    The episode will feature people known from The Voice of Poland ( Patryk Skoczyński – 6th edition, Kasia Dereń – 3rd edition), as well as regular editions of Szansa na Sukces ( Sisters of Szlachta, Sargis Davtyan ). We also have two selective returns: Maja Hyży (National Qualifier 2018 ) and Amelia Andryszczyk ( Junior National Qualifiers 2016 ).

    Round 2 (February 9)

    In the second episode we will hear the biggest, Eurovision hits. Participants will perform, among others, Amar pelos dois by Salvador Sobral and Save Your Kisses from Me by the Brotherhood of Man . Among them also the hit It’s not me! with whom Edyta Górniak took second place at Eurovision 1994. In the second round of Szansa na Sukces we will see the following 7 acts:

    Round 3 (February 16)

    His of the legendary Beatles will feature this qualifying round with songs of the Liverpool’s band such as Help! , Twist and Shout or Please Me to be performed by the following 7 acts:

    Albert Černý from the team of Lake Malawi (Czech Republic 2019)
    Norbert Legieć
    Marzena Ryt

    Grand Final

    The grand final is set to take place on February 23. The three finalists will sing two songs . The first of them will be a cover of the juror’s song, which was a guest of the winning episode of the singer, and the second will be the author’s song, specially recorded for the Eurovision Song Contest. With this song, the winner of the Chance of Success will also perform in Rotterdam.

    THE SHOW

    Szansa na sukces ( A Chance for Success) was one of the first popular talent shows on Polish channel TVP2. The show ran from 14 November 1993 to 29 April 2012. In the program aspiring singers performed covers of smash hit singles by legendary Polish recording artist bands which were invited to the show (one band/artist each show). The original singer/group chose the winner who sang the same song at the main annual concert in Sala Kongresowa in Palace of Culture and Science. The show was presented by Wojciech Mann.

    In summer 2019, TVP2 confirmed a reboot but with a different format. This reboot featured young singers aged 9 to 14 hoping to represent Poland at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 and the result was fully satifiying as the winner of it, Viki Gabor achieved a second consecutive victory for Poland in the competition.

    THE EUROVISION STORY SO FAR

    Poland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Edyta Gorniak‘s To nie ja, achieving the best result for the country uo to date. The country which has participated 21 times in the contest and counts mixed results . It has managed a top 10 placing only three times. Due to poor results and financial issues and was absent from the competition for three consecutive years until their return in 2014.

    In 2018 Gromee feat Lukas Meijer represented the countey with their song Light me up but unfortunately were left out of the grand final. In 2019 Tulia with “Fire of Love (Pali się)“ represented the country but failed to reach the grand final as they finished 11th in the first semi final .
