Australia: The Aussies decided! Montaigne to Eurovision 2020

  • Australia’s 2nd national final in history was completed just minutes ago and the aussies’ verdict is sending Montaigne to Eurovision 2020 next May to perform “Don’t Break me” on  Ahoy Rotterdam’s stage.

    Saturday , February 8 and the Aussies have proved one more time how to showcase their talent! The stage at the Gold Coast Exhibition and Convention Centre on the Gold Coast saw 10 acts battle for the golden ticket to represent Australia in Eurovision 2020. The show was hosted by radio host, presenter and music buff Myf Warhurst, and comedian Joel Creasey.

    The stage took today in the following order these 10 acts:

    1. iOTA – Life
    2. Jordan-Ravi – Pushing Stars
    3. Jaguar Jonze – Rabbit Hole
    4. Jack Vidgen – I Am King I Am Queen
    5. Vanessa Amorosi  – Lessons of Love
    6. Diana Rouvas – Can We Make Heaven
    7. Mitch Tambo – Together
    8. Casey Donovan – Proud 
    9. Montaigne – Don’t Break Me 
    10. Didirri – Raw Stuff 

    The first 50% of the votes was determined by the jury in last night’s jury show while the rest 50% was decided by today’s public voting.

    Here is how the jury voted last night, according to which Montaigne topped the jury voting with 54 points while Vanessa Amorosi came second with 42 points and Casey Donovan closing the top 3 with 40 points :

    The public vote was slightly different as Casey Donovan was people’s favorite with 60 points and Montaigne second with 53 points. But after adding the jury votes, Montaigne topped the overall scoreboard with 107 points  leaving second behind Casey with 100 points  while the top 3 closes with Vanessa Amorosi and 82 points.

    The national final show featured some special guests on stage , as ESC 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw who performed alongside with Australia ESC 2016 representative Dami Im his new song Walk with me . Dami Im revealed during the show that she will be competing in Australia’s national selection for Eurovision 2021 !

    Present at the 2nd Australian national final was EBU’s Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest Jon Ola Sand who expressed his satifaction for the show.

    A few words about Montaigne

    Montaigne or Jessica Alyssa Cerro as her real name is, at only 24, the Sydney-based artist has been getting a lot of attention lately, and she just finished a highly praised national tour. The past few years have seen her recognised for her work with multiple spots on the Triple J’s Hottest 100, an ARIA award for Best Breakthrough Artist and a nomination for Best Female Artist on her debut album Glorious Heights. Her sophomore album COMPLEX was released in August to critical acclaim.
