Italy: Diodato has no plans of participating in Sanremo 2021

The Italian Eurovision 2020 hopeful, Diodato, has confirmed that he won't be defending his title in the forthcoming Sanremo Festival in 2021.
Diodato won Sanremo Festival 2020 with his song "Fai Rumore" earning the right to represent Italy in Eurovision 2020. Although he never had the chance to perform his song in Rotterdam Ahoy as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic, his song made a lot of noice within Italy and across Europe.
"Fai Rumore" went on to become a big hit in Italy and across Europe, going viral on all digital platforms and topping most music charts in the country. Who can forget the image of quarantined people breaking the lockdown silence by singing 'Fai Rumore' on their balconies!
No return in Sanremo 2021
Talking to Italian radio station RTL 102,5 Diodato confirmed that he has no intention in participation in the 2021 editon of Sanremo festival, contradicting the reports and rumors from media outlets that he had submitted a new song for Sanremo 2021.
Thus Diodato won be back to defend his title at Sanremo 2021 joining the list of ESC 2020 acts that will not return in Eurovision 2021:

- Aksel (Finland)
- Den & Tan (Denmark)
- Diodato (Italy)
- Damir Kedzo (Croatia)
- Sandro (Cyprus)
- Ulrikke (Norway)
The next Sanremo festival is set to unfold from 2-6 March with the Grand Final set for Saturday 6 March. The winner of iconic competition will have the right to represent Italy in Eurovision 2021.
