Luxembourg: RTL confirms national final for January 27 and releases the rules

  • Luxembourgish broadcaster, RTL, has confirmed on its comeback in Eurovision 2024 a national final on January 27 and has released the rules. 

    Following the discussions that had already began months ago between Luxembourg's broadcaster, RTL and EBU, it was confirmed the central European micro state will be making their comeback in 2024. 

    Ahead of their Eurovision 2024 participation Luxembourg's RTL has announced a televised national final as their selection format for the 68th edition of Eurovision which will take place on  January 27, 2024.

    RTL is pleased to announce the launch of the selection process for the artist or group who will represent Luxembourg in the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.

    Starting today, RTL is looking for talented individuals ready to take on this challenge. Candidates can register through the official national Eurovision website, www.eurovision.lu, in one or more of the three available categories.

     

    RTL , revealed the rules of the selection process which read as following: 

    To be eligible as a singer, candidates must meet the following requirements:
    – Have reached the age of 16 by January 27, 2024
    – Be available and flexible between November 2023 and May 2024
    – Possess live singing abilities and feel at ease on a large stage
    – Hold Luxembourgish nationality or have resided in Luxembourg for at least three consecutive years or exhibit a strong cultural involvement and proven connection with the Luxembourgish music scene. In the latter case, several criteria must be fulfilled, including active national engagement in musical practice, regular collaboration with recognized cultural institutions and actors within the Luxembourgish scene.

    And all this would have been insignificant for a tiny European landlocked country if this country wasn’t one of the founder members of EBU that participated in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano.

    Luxembourg has achieved an admirable total of five victories in the contest (1961,1965,1972,1973, 1983). Some of the most worlwide acclaimed acts have represented the nation, such as Lara Fabian, Ireen Sheer, Baccara, Nana Mouskouri, Vicky Leandros, Anne Marie David, France Gall. Despite its 37 participations, the low placing in the contest and the low TV rating in the country have kept it many years away from the Eurovision Stage.

    Luxembourg was last seen in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 in Millstreet when Modern Times represented the country with the song Donnez Moi Une Chance De Te Dire and achieved a 20th placing.
