Sweden: Loreen wins Melodifestivalen 2023 with 'Tattoo' and is off to Eurovsion for a second time

  • Loreen wins Melodifestivalen 2023 with the song 'Tattoo' and will be representing Sweden at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, marking her second Eurovision participation after her victorious entry 'Euphoria' back in 2012 in Baku.

    “Melodifestivalen 2023” consisted this year of 5 semi-final rounds  and this evening's grand final show. A total of 28 acts took part in this year’s edition, with 7 acts competing in each of the first four heats and two first of them qualifying directly t the grand final while the 3rd and 4th placed act had a second chance in the semi-final. 

     

    Following last weeks semi-final show that filled in the last four spots of the final, this evening the grand final show taook place at Friends Arena in Stockholm. The show was hosted by Farah Abadi and Jesper Rönndahl and saw a total of 12 contestants competing for the right to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2023.

    Namely tonight's contestant were:

    Marcus & Martinus – “Air”

    Smash Into Pieces – “Six Feet Under”

     

    Kiana – “Where Did You Go”

     

    Nordman – “Släpp alla sorger”

     

    Loreen – “Tattoo”

     

    THEOZ – “Mer av dig”

     

    Paul Rey  “Royals”

    The results

    The final winners of the competition was determined 50% by public voting and 50% by international juries' voting  the juros of which came from the following countries: 

    • Australia 
    • Belgium 
    • Croatia 
    • Latvia
    • Malta 
    • Spain 
    • Germany
    • Austria 

     

    The jury results came out as following bringing  Loreen with 'Tattoo' at first place , Marcus & Martinus with 'Air' second while the top 3 closed Paul Rey with the song 'Royals'.

    Once the televtoing results were added in the overall result saw Loreen topping the overall scoreboard leaving second behind Marcus & Martinus and in third place Smash Into Pieces.

    A few words about Loreen

    Loreens won the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, with her entry "Euphoria". The song reached number one in several countries, including Germany and Sweden. At the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, she sang as the opening act in the first semi-final and as the interval act in the grand final.

    Interested in becoming a musician, Loreen took part in the Idol 2004 television competition, finishing fourth. The following year she released her first single, "The Snake", with the band Rob'n'Raz and became a television presenter on TV400. While working as a segment producer and director for several Swedish reality TV shows, she entered Melodifestivalen 2011 with the song "My Heart Is Refusing Me", which became a Top 10 hit in Sweden. She also had Top 20 hits in Sweden with the singles "Crying Out Your Name" (2012) and "Statements" (2017) which competed in Melodifestivalen 2017, reached the Second Chance but lost the Duel with Anton Hagman. 

    Over the years Lorren has released several albums and singles establishing her as the most successful Swedish singers on home soil and internationally.
