Malta: Gaia Gambuzza selected for Junior Eurovision 2022

Gaia Gambuzza won the Maltese national final with the song 'Diamonds in the Skies' and will be representing the nation at Junior Eurovision 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The Maltese national final for Junior Eurovision 2022 (MJESC2022) took place this evening at the Rediffusion House in Gwardamanġa. The show was presented by Ryan and Josmar Borg while past Maltese Junior Eurovision representative featured the final. Namely, Ike and Kaya (2021), Eliana Gomez Blanco (2019) and Gianluca Cilia (2017) treated the audience with their performances.
A total of 16 acts took to the stage this evening with the ambition to win the ticket to Yerevan, Armenia. The 16 competing entries were:
- Emma Kate Formosa – “Bounce”
- Naomi Busuttil – “Little Cheeky”
- Cassidy Gauci – “Light Up”
- Kaylyn Mallia – “Here I Am”
- Aaliyah Cassar – “Infinity”
- Cesca Galea – “See the Invisible”
- Isis Jade Miller – “Unbreakable”
- Shanzay Mangion – “Heartbeat”
- Geneve Dimech – “With You By My Side”
- Ma Girlz – “Stereo”
- Kensley Ciappara – “Tliet Xadini” (Three monkeys)
- Charelle Micallef – “The Extra Miles”
- Andrea Camilleri – “Spark”
- Rih and Bri – “Karma”
- Kayleen Mercicea – “Shooting Star”
- Gaia Gambuzza – “Diamonds in the Skies”
The result was influnece 75% by jury voting and 25% by public voting. Once all votes were counted Gaia Gambuzza singing 'Diamonds in the skies' came first leaving second behind Andrea Camilleri with 'Spark' while the top 3 closed Emma Kate Formosa with 'Bounce'.
Malta in Junior Eurovision
Malta is one of the most succeful nations in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, having won already twice: in 2013 with Gaia Cauchi and her entry “The Start” , and in 2015 with Destiny Chukunyere singing “Not My Soul,”. The nation debuted in the competition at the first contest back in 2003, and has only missed two editions, in 2011 and 2012. Since then apart from the two victories it has accomplished six times to finish in the top 10 spots on the scorebaoard.
In JESC 2019 Eliana Gomez Blanco represented Malta in Gliwice- Silesia with “We Are More”, and came 19th with a totlal of 29 points. In 2020 the national final winner, Chanel Monseigneur , flew the flag in Warsaw with her song "Chasing Sunsets" which finished 8th with a total of 100 points.
Last year, Ike & Kaya won the national final and defended the Maltese colors in Paris singing 'My Home' which finished 12th in the final with 97 points.
