  • ERT announced the three candidate songs that remain in the selection race for Eurovision 2023.

Three songs are now in the final phase of the process of selecting the song that will represent the country in the 67th Eurovision Contest. Later this month we will know the one song that will obtain the golden ticket.

The three songs that qualified for the final stage are:

    • Antonia Kaouri & Maria Maragou – Shout Out (a rock/pop song)
    • Melissa Mantzoukis – Liar (a pop dance song)
    • Victor Vernicos – What They Say (a ballad song)

Yesterday the national broadcaster invited the three acts still in the race to elaborate on their concept for their song presentation. Once ERT receives the information from all three acts they will review the proposals and conclude the selection with the act to fly the flag in Liverpool.

    The audience committee

Last year ERT decided to include a public jury to have a say on selecting the country's next Eurovision entry. Out of 2,982 applications that were sent in to ERT, a draw determined 70 people to make up the public jury with a specific number chosen in terms of age. Specifically, the formation of the jury held according to the following age categories:

    • 25 members in the 18 – 24 category
    • 20 members in the 25 to 34 category
    • 15 members in the 35 to 44 category
    • 10 members in the 45+ category

These 70 members that came out of a special draw gathered  in December 28 in order to listen to the candidate songs and review the potential Eurovision 2023 entries for Greece.

According to this yesr's rules the public panel has a 50,6% share on the selection's result while the rest 49.4% of the result will be determined by ERT's 7-member committee.

    Greece in Eurovision

Greece made its first participation in the contest  in 1974 with Marinela. Since then the country has won one time the competition, in 2005 with Helena Paparizou and her entry  My number one. Since 2004 and up to 2013 the country was one of the most successful countires in the contest, having achieved 9 times a top ten placing. In 2016 it experienced its first non qualifying results since the semi final were introduced, with Argo in Stockholm.

In 2020 Stefania was internally selected to represent Greece in Eurovision 2020 with her song 'Supergi!rl'. Unfortunately the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic depriving the young talented act from her journey to Rotterdam. Nevertheless, ERT continued with Stefania for the 2021 edition in Rotterdam where the young act competed in the second semi final with her song  'Last Dance' and after qualifying to the final achieved to finish in 10th place bringing Greece back in the top 10 for the first time since 2013.

Last year Amanda Tenfjord was internally selected to fly the flag in Turin where performing in the first semi final her song 'Die Together' qualified to the Grand final offering another top-10 placing to Greece by finishing 8th on the final overall score with 225 points.
