Georgia: Here are the 'Voice of Georgia' judges

  • All four judges that will feature the upcoming season of 'Voice of Georgia' have been revealed.

    For Eurovision 2023 Georgia will be selecting their hopeful through the music talent show of The Voice Georgia instead of an internal selection or the Georgian Idol  which was the case for Georgia over the recent years.

    The Georgian national broadcaster has been revealing progressively the four judges that will feature the Voice's show and now we have the complete line up of the judging panel. 

     

    Namely the members to form The Voice's jury panel are: 

     

    1. Stephane Mgebrishvili 

    Stephane has deen active in the local music scene since the 90's and he had won as member of the group Stephane and 3G the Georgian national selection for Eurovision 2009 with the song “We Don’t Wanna Put In” which never reached the Eurovision stage in Moscow as it was disqualified as a song conveying political messages. Stephane has also been a coach in the The Voice and juror in X-factor and Talent. 

     

    2. Dato Evgenidze

    Dato is a composer who writes music for TV and theatre productions and has also been a judge in the show 'Ranina' which selects the Georgian Junior Eurovision act.

     

    3. Sopho Toroshelidze

    Sopho was as Georgia's hopeful at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 as part of the group Eldrine singing 'One more Day' which finished in 9th place with 110 points. She has served as a judge on X Factor Georgia in 2014, and has been a mmeber of the Georgian jury at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

     

    Dato Porchkhidze

    Dato has taken part as a judge in the first and second series of the Voice and remains up to date one of the most successful coaches in the show's hostory, scoring two victories in the first and second series. 

     

    Notably the upcoming season of 'The Voice of Georgia' will be the fifth one and the second on the public television, PBS. However, this time the show attracts even more attention as it will be used to determine Georgia's Eurovision 2023 hopeful.

     

    Georgia in Eurovision

    Georgia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest first time in 2007 with Sopho Khalvashi and her song Visionary dream . Since then it has competed 11 times missing out only the 2009 edition of the contest, when they chose to withdraw. Its best results were scored in Oslo with Sofia Nizharadze and her song Shine (2010) and Dusseldorf with Eldrine and the entry One More Day (2011) when both achieved a 9th placing in the Grand Final.

    In 2020, won the Georgian Idol and was set  to represent Georgia at the 65th Eurovision Song Contestin Rotterdam with his song  “Take me as i am.  Unfortunately, the contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak depriving Kipiani of the chance to perform on Rotterdam Ahoy’s stage. In 2021 Tornike was selected internally for Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam where he competed in the second semi final with the ballad song "You" , which sadly didn't qualify to the final.

    This years Circus Mircus were internally selected to represent the nation in Turin where they came last in the 2nd semi final with their song  ‘Lock me in' failing to reach the Grand final.
