Tuesday, 09 August 2022

  • The city of Nottingham has decided to drop out of the Eurovision 2023 host city race and will not be submitting a bid to host the contest.

One city less will be bidding to host the next Eurovision Song Contest as Nottingham, despite expressing initially interest to host will not eventually not enter the biddign race.

The Leader of the city's council David Mellen stated the following:

We have carefully considered the criteria which potential host cities are required to meet ahead of submitting a formal application.

Unfortunately, despite having a great venue, a vibrant and diverse community and excellent green transport links, Nottingham doesn’t meet the wider capacity requirements for an event of this scale.

Sadly, we have collectively decided not to put forward a bid on this occasion.

The city was eyeign to host the next competition at the Motorpoint ArenaMotorpoint Arena (originally the Nottingham Arena), a multi-use indoor arena joined with the National Ice Centre in the Lace Market district of Nottingham, England.

The BBC has announced that they will be revealing the shortlisted cities that will be continuing in the host city race on August 12 sometime during the  BBC 2 Radio’s ‘Good Morning Show’.
