Bristol has officially submitted a bid to host the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest set to take place in the United Kingdom next year.
Bristol joins the list of countries bidding to host Eurovision 2023. Through a tweet on his personal account the city's Mayor Marvin Rees has confirmed the news:
"We've submitted #Bristol's bid to host Eurovision 2023 on behalf of #Ukraine. Hundreds of Ukrainians now call our City of Sanctuary home – we've put them at the heart of our bid
With YTL_Arena, we'd custom-build the perfect #Eurovision at the Brabazon Hangars"
The city proposes as YTL Arena Bristol as the contest's venue. YTL Arena is a 17,000-capacity indoor arena currently under construction, located on the former Filton Airfield’s Brabazon hangar. Original plans were for the arena to be built next to Bristol Temple Meads railway station in Bristol, England, and was expected to be completed in 2020.
The BBC has announced that they will be revealing the shortlisted cities that will be continuing in the host city race on August 12 sometime during the BBC 2 Radio’s ‘Good Morning Show’.
