Eurovision 2023 Day 5 rehearsals: Second rehearsal footage of five Semi-Final 2 acts and Big-5 countries & Ukraine's first rehearsals

  • Eurovision 2023 rehearsals have reached Day 5 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, UK with 5 countries from Semi-final 2 making their second rehearsal and the Big-5 countries and Ukraine their first.

    Five nations competing in Semi-final 2 (Denmark, Armenia, Romania, Estonia, Belgium)  are taking the stage today and will have their chance to rehearse for a second time their songs while the Big-5 countries ( United Kingdom. Italy, Spain, Germany, France) and Ukraine are taking the stage for their first rehearsal. 

    The rehearsal week is divided into two primary phases:  the first rehearsals of all competing countries into the two semi finals take place while in the second phase the second reeharsals of all competing countries in the semi finals are held along with the first rehearsals of the Big-5 countries and the host nation. 

    This year all rehearsals are held closed to the press and  without the presence of any audience as rehearsals material will be released only on TikTok and  eurovision.tv with photos and backstage content. 

    This is how today's rehearsals will unfold in the M&S Bank Arena: 

     

    Denmark – Reiley – “Breaking My Heart”

    Denmark's Reiley is opening the rehearsals Day 5 with his second rehearsal of 'Breaking my heart'. The Danish hopeful has mad a change of clothes as he is weating a pink sparkling suit instasd of his white trousers in the fiest rehearsal. 

    A colorful performance and a rotating house through which Reiley goes from room to room, reminding us of last year Rosa Linn's  house room on stage in Turin.

    Armenia – Brunette – “Future Lover”

    Back on stage comes Armenia next with Brunette to rehearse her song 'Future Lover' for a second time. The Armenian hopeful takes her position on a leaning platform with the LED screen on the floor creating really impressive images. Brunettee is wearing exactly the same clothes as in her first rehearsal.

    Romania – Theodor Andrei – “D.G.T (Off and On)”

    Theodor Adrei from Romania is up next for his second rehearsal of 'D.G.T (Off and On). Theodor has left behind the yello outfit of the first rehearsal and has replaced it with a pink shorts suit. The only yellow remaining is that Pikachus printed image on the back of his pink socks. He delivers his song with energy which he conveys to the auidience.

    Estonia – Alika – “Bridges”

    Estonia's Alika is returning on stage for her second rehearsal of her piano ballad song 'Bridges'. No changes to her staging from her first rehearsal. She appear in her blue dress while the dark colored stage switches to an illuminated place due to the dozens spotlights on the backdrop, contributing to the dramatic tone of the songs. Alika's performances will without doubt carry the audience away!

    Belgium – Gustaph – “Because of You” 

     

    Gustaph is the last semifinalist to rehearse for today. He appears on stage wearing his white pink outfits like in the first rehearsal.  The backdrops switches from Pink to red and white with graphics displayed on the LED screen.

    Germany – Lord of the Lost – “Blood and Glitter”

    It's time for the Big-5 countries to commence their rehearsal with Germany taking the stage first with the rock group Lord of the Lost. Lord of the lost secured their spot in Eurovision 2023 by winning the German national final with the song 'Bllod and glitter'.

    Lord of the Lost is a German gothic metal band from Hamburg. The band was formed by singer and frontman Chris Harms. Lord of the Lost was founded in mid-2007 by Chris Harms as a solo project. Harms recruited other musicians from his friends in the Hamburg music scene to form the band and begin working on the first album. 

    The debut single Dry the Rain was released in 2009 and the debut album Fears was released in 2010. 

    Up to date the band consists of the following members: Chris "The Lord" Harms – vocals, guitar, cello (2007–present), Class Grenayde (Klaas Helmecke) – bass (2008–present), Gared Dirge (Gerrit Heinemann) – piano, synthesizer, percussion, guitar, theremin (2010–present), π (Pi Stoffers) – guitar (2016–present), Niklas Kahl – drums (2017–present).

    The Rock band take to the stage wearing really impressive, mainly red colored costumes. The stage is dominated by red and black colors, why the acts are located on a triangle shaped structure. a flashing show light throughout the songs interrupts the darkness of the staging. A really special rock performance by acts that know how to stand on a big concert stage!

    France – La Zarra – “Évidement”

    Get ready for a classy performance with some disco action on stage as France's La Zarra rehearses for the first time her entry 'Evidement.' La Zarra was internally selected to represent the nation by France Televisions. 

    La Zarra, stage name of Fatima Zahra Hafdi, is a Canadian singer who was born to a Moroccan family in Canada. She is known to have grown up near the city of Longueuil (Quebec). In 2016, La Zarra became known for an artistic collaboration with Niro on the title 'Printemps blanc'. She dropped her own debut solo single “Tu t’en iras” (You’ll go away) in 2021. Later in the year she was nominated at the NRJ Music Awards 2021, as Francophone revelation of the year.

    La Zarra takes the stage dressed in a sparkling black fitted gown paired with a stylish hat on top. She delivers her song in French standing on a high column which initially is covered by a black sparkling material similar to her dress and is unveiled as the song proressess. From the atmospherical elegant appeal in the first steps of the song , the music turns into a joyful disco song that makes you wanna stand up and dance.

    Italy – Marco Mengoni – “Due vite”

    Next Big-5 country to rehearse is Italy with Marco Mengoni. Marco won the right to represent Italy after triumphing in Sanremo Festival with the song 'Due Vite'

    Marco Mengoni, born 25 December 1988, is an Italian pop singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 2009, after winning the third season of Italian talent show X Factor. Since that he has sold over 2.8 million records in Italy, peaking the Italian albums chart seven consecutive times and entering the Top 10 Italian Singles Chart fifteen times.

    n 2013, Mengoni won the 63rd Sanremo Music Festival with his song "L'essenziale" and went on representing Italy at Eurovision 2013 in Malmo, Sweden. The song finished 7th in the Grand final.+ receiving a total of 126 points.

    Marco appears on stage to deliver his emotional ballad song 'Due Vite' wearing leather trousers and a silver sparkly vest. The LED sreen displays swirling clouds and a big-sized moon. The whole staging fits in with the emotional impact and romatism Marco's song brings to the audience. Lyrics , melody and staging aligned in a powerful performance!

    Ukraine – TVORCHI – “Heart of Steel” 

    Up next are the representatives of last year's winner! TVORCHI from Ukraine are here with proud and ready to grace the stagw with their first rehearsal. TVORCHI won the Ukrainian national final last December with the song 'Heart of Steel'

    Tvorchi are a Ukrainian electronic music duo from Ternopil, formed in 2018 by producer Andrii Hutsuliak and vocalist Jimoh Augustus Kehinde (alias Jeffery Kenny). They have released four studio albums: The Parts (2018), Disco Lights (2019), 13 Waves (2020) and Road (2020).

    Andrii Viktorovych Hutsuliak and Jimoh Augustus Kehinde met while they were students at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Ternopil National Medical University. On 30 May 2017, the duo released their first single, "Slow". On 4 September, their second single "You" was released.

    The Ukrainian due appears on stage wearing a gold black outfit and a sliver shiny long coat respevtively. The song sounds contemporary with a strong dose of church organ-style keyboard effects and thumping bass. The use of the LED screen and the lights is extensive while four boxes create the backdrop for their backing dancers.

    Spain – Blanca Paloma – “Eaea”

    It's time to get into a flamenco mood, as Spain'd  Blanca Paloma takes the stage to rehearse for the first time her song 'Eaea'. Blanca made her way to Liverpool after winning the Spanish national selection of Benidorm Fest back in January. 

    Blanca Paloma Ramos Baeza was born on  9 June 1989 and is a Spanish singer, set designer and costume designer. She was born and raised in Elche. After graduating from Miguel Hernández University of Elche with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Ramos moved to Madrid to pursue a career in theatre in 2013. Last year she had taken part in Benidorm Fest 2022 with her song "Secreto de agua".She participated in the first semi-final and qualified to the final. In the final, she came in 5th place with 61 points.

    Blanca takes to the stage wearing an elevated version of what we saw in Benidorm, in white and dark red. The semi-circular structure in the middle of the stage creates the space for her 5 backing dancers to unfold the choreography while on the backdrop red, black and white colors are featuring her performance 

    Blanca has sdefinetely scaled up her national performance and conveys us the passion and energy of flamenco!

    United Kingdom – Mae Muller – “I Wrote a Song”

    Last but not least the hosting nation's hopeful, Mae Muller, takes the stage for the first rehearsal of 'I wrote a song'. 

    Holly Mae Muller (born 26 August 1997) is an English singer-songwriter. Muller first received mainstream attention after releasing the single "Better Days" in 2021, with Swedish music collective Neiked and American rapper Polo G, which went on to chart in the top 40 in both the United Kingdom and United States. On 27 October 2022, Muller released her single 'I Just Came To Dance'. As of March 2023, it has been streamed on Spotify over 2.5 million times.

    Mae Muller appears on stage dressed in black tousers paired with a black corset jacket. The set up of the staging is totally contemporary and ideal for a pop sogs like her entry. She begins delivering her entry standing on a high structer while on the LED screen big pop art-style graphics are displayed. At some point her projected face splits up in two diferrent direction. 

    Four backing dancers in red and black accompany Mae in the front part of the stage. The song build up and turn out into a bop that we can easily imagine it in the clubs taking people to the dancefloor. Well with such big music industry we can't expect less from the host nation!
