Denmark: DR presents the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023 competing entries

  • The Danish broadcaster, DR, has released the competing acts and songs of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023, the show that determines Denmark's Eurovision hopefuls. 

    During a press conference in Copenhagen, DR, unveiled the eight contestants and songs of the 2023 eiditon of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. 

    The eight candidates were shorlisted from the public submissions and the proposals  coming from the Danish music industry. 

    The 8 acts and songs for this year's Danish national final for Eurovision 2023 are: 

    • maia maia – “Beautiful Bullshit”
    • Reiley – “Breaking My Heart”
    • Nicklas Sonne – “Freedom”
    • Micky Skeel – “Glansbillede” (Picture perfect)
    • Mariyah LeBerg – “Human”
    • EYJAA – “I Was Gonna Marry Him”
    • Søren Torpegaard Lund – “Lige her” (Right here)
    • Frederik Leopold – “Stuck on You”

    All songs have been released on streaming platforms and are available to listen to. 

     

    Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023

    The Danish national final is set for February 11, 2023. The show will be hosted by Tina Müller and Heino Hansen .While Tina was also the host of the last two editions for Heino it will be his first time presenting the show. 

     

    Denmark in Eurovision

    Denmark made it first appearance in the Eurovision family in 1957 and has been crowned winner three times: In 1963 with Grethe & Jorgen Ingmann and the song Dansevise,  in 2000 with Olsen Brothers  and their entry  Fly on the wings of love and  in 2013 with Emmelie de Forest and her song Only teardrops. The country apart from hosting the Contest each year after its victories , has hosted the special show tribute to the 50th Eurovision anniversary in 2005.

    In 2020 the duo Ben & Ten won Danish Melody Grand Prix 2020 and were off to rerpesent the nation with their song 'Yes". Unfortunately never had the chance to perform on Rotterdam Ahoy's Eurovision stage as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic. In 2021 the duo Fyr & Flamme won the national final with "Øve os på hinanden" - Denmark's first entry fully in Danish since 1997 - who represented the country in Rotterdam but failed to qualify for the final, finishing 11th in the second semi-final with 89 points.

    In 2022 the female rock group REDDI won the national final with their song 'The Show' which unfortunately didn't make it to the grand final.
