Poland: Krystian Ochman in the running to represent Poland at Eurovision 2022

  • Krystian Ochman has confirmed to Polish media that he has submitted a song for Eurovision 2022. 

    According to Dziennik Eurowizyjny Polish media outlet, Krystian Ochman, has submitted in the Polish selection for Eurovision 2022 a song with the ambition to represent Poland in Turin the following May. 

    The singer himself has previously admitted that he was working with the producer @Atutowy on the song that he was supposed to send to TVP. In an interview with Empik, Ochman said that he was not sure if he wanted to represent Poland, but decided to use the option to send a song. He added that to go to Turin he would have to be very pleased with his piece. 

    In a in a later interview for Eska.pl, Ochman decided that he would most likely go to Turin with the song "Where to go" in English. However, he emphasized that he was not convinced that he himself would fit the competition:

    "Nice thing, but I don't know if that's the end for me, because some of these programs are political and maybe that's something strong that I'm saying, but it's true. I like to be aware of what is going on in this country, but I try not to worry because I have a lot of work. If I get into something I don't love, I'd rather not be involved. However, I believe that it is worth trying."

     

    About Krystian Ochman

    Krystian Ochman (born 19 July 1999 - Polish singer and composer who combines the sound of classical singing with an entertainment repertoire in his work. He came to fame and has met success after winning the 11th edition of The Voice of Poland.

    He comes from a family with musical traditions - his father played the synthesizer in the Róże Europy band , and his grandfather, Wiesław Ochman , is an opera singer . At first he was fascinated by sport, he swam and wanted to become a footballer, eventually, at the urging of his parents, he began to learn to play the piano and trumpet . During his high school years, he took up singing lessons, and also played the role of a prince in the school musical Cinderella . At the urging of his grandfather, he started studies at the Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of classical singing.

    After winning The Voice, In the following months, he released the singles: "Great titles", "Memory" and "Same ja"In September 2021 he received the Audience Award in the concert "Premiery" at the 58th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole , in which he performed the song "Prometheusz"

     

    The Polish Selection for Eurovision 2022

    Poland will be selecting its Eurovision representative internally via an two phase internal selection. In the first phase a five member jury will select initially three songs from the public submissions that will move to the second phase. In addition each member can propose and add one more act that is not among the submissions. Thus in the second phase 3 or potentially up to 15 act will be reviewed by the jury in the voting scale 1-10 points. The song with the most votes will secure the right to represent the country at Eurovision 2022. 

     

    Poland in Eurovision 

    Poland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Edyta Gorniak‘s To nie ja, achieving the best result for the country uo to date. The country which has participated 21 times in the contest and counts mixed results . It has managed a top 10 placing only three times. Due to poor results and financial issues and was absent from the competition for three consecutive years until their return in 2014.

    In 2018 Gromee feat Lukas Meijer represented the countey with their song Light me up but unfortunately were left out of the grand final. In 2019 Tulia with “Fire of Love (Pali się)“ represented the country but failed to reach the grand final as they finished 11th in the first semi final .

    In 2020 Alicja Szemplińska was set to represent the nation in Rotterdam with her song Empires, following her win in the national final “Szansa na sukces 2020″ . However the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 outbreak and Alicja never had the chance to perform her entry on Rotterdam Ahoy's stage. 

    Last year Rafał Brzozowski was internally selected to represent Poland in Rotterdam with his song "The Ride". The Polish act despite his energetic performance on stage didn't make it to the Grand final show.
