Monaco: No plans of returning to Eurovision in 2022
Monday, 30 August 2021

  • Monaco's national broadcaster, TMC, has no plans of returning to Eurovision in its 66th edition next year in Italy.

The Monegasque national broadcaster has confimred to ESCToday that the tiny state will not be particiating in Eurovision 2022 in Italy. Therefore Monaco is going down the same path with Andorra, Slovakia and Luxembourg which have decided to stay away from the competition.

The last time we saw Monaco compete in the competition was 15 years ago, back in 2006 in the contest held in Athens, Greece.

Monaco made its debut participation in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1959 and has a history of 24 appearances in the competition. The micro-state has a victory to show as in ESC 1971 Severine won the contest in Dublin performing Un banc, un arbre, une rue.

The nation participated in the contest from 1959 until 1979, to withdraw one year later. It was only in 2004 when the country returned to the competition and competed for the next two years. In 2007 it decided to withdraw from the contest and hasn't returned back since then.

In their last appearance the country competed with Séverine Ferrer and her song La Coco Dance which failed to qualify to the Grand final.

Lets remember the country's victorious participation back in 1971 with Severine
