Israel: Ilai Elmakies ends his journey on the X-Factor Israel show

• Ilai Elmakies is the latest act eliminated in last evening's (18/1) episode of X-Factor Israel, the show that will determine the country's Eurovision 2022 hopeful and song. 

  The X-factor Israel show has reached the quarterfinals stage with 8 acts remain in the run for representing Israel at Eurovision 2022. Following the first part of the quarterfinal in which Linet got off the X-factor train and three acts secured their spot in the show, in last evening's episode (18/1) the second quarterfinal of four acts took the stage to perform songs in duels, with each one having to win the duel in order to avoid being up for elimination. 

  In this phase the judges give a score up to 10 points each and after summarizing the judges' score the audience will give his own score while for each contestant the audience can give up to 60 points. The two contestants who lose the battle in their duel are up for elimination and the judges decide which of them will proceed to the next stage and who will leave the competion. 

  This episode featured as guest the singer Eden Hasson , who is responsible for many hits in Israel in recent years. Eden was invited to express his views on the contestants and to advise the judges.

  The four acts that took stage the stage competing in duels were: 

   

  First Duel

   

  Michael Ben David - "Grow Me A Little Beard" (Eden Hasson) : The judges gave Michael 40 points, the crowd added 51 points. A total of 91 points for Micahael. 

                                                                           VS

  Sapir Saban - "I Call You" (Eyal Golan) : The judges gave Sapphire 30 points, the crowd added 52 points. A total of 82 points.

   

   Michael Ben-David won the duel and Sapir was up for elimination in the sing-off round.

   

  Second Duel

   

   Anna Stephanie - "Nothing Else Matters" (Metallica) : The judges awarded Anna 40 points - the crowd added an additional 49 points. A total of 89 points.

  IIlai Elmakies - "The Diaspora" (Dudu Tessa ) : The judges awarded Ilai 20 points - the crowd added another 44 points. A total of 64 points.

  Sing-off Duel

  In the sing-off round which deterined which of the two acts will remain in the show, Sapir battled with Ilai.

  Ilai Elmakies - Such Love"  (Zehava Ben and Idan Raichel)

   

  Miri, Margo and Ren favored Sapir while Aviv Ilai. Ilai's journey in the X-Factor reaches to an end. 

   

  The next episode will air on Tuesday, January 18, at 8.15pm  CET on Channel 13 where we will see the six remaining act battle their way to the finals.

  How will the ESC 2022 hopeful and song be determined

  After a number of auditions and shows, once the semi final is held and the four finalists are determined on Channel 13, a second semi final will take place in order to determine the songs the four finalists will perform in the X-factor final show. Each of the four candidates will have to perform two songs selected out of the songs sent in during the submission period. In this parallel semifinal show one of the two candidate songs will be chosen for each of the four finalists. 

  Thus, the final of X-factor will see the four finalists perform the song chosen in the side semi final show while the final winner will secure the right to represent Israel in Turin at Eurovision 2022.
