Cyprus: Andromache with the song 'Ela" selected for Eurovision 2022

Andromache Dimitropolou has been seleced by the Cypriot national broadcaster, CyBC, to represent the mediterannean island at Eurovision 2022 singing 'Ela'.
The latest reports and rumors that wanted Andromache Cyrpus' Eurovision 2022 act have been confirmed. CyBC announced earlier during the afternoon tv show 'Ola ston aera' (All on Air) that Adromachi will be flying the flag in Turin performing the song 'Ela'.
Andromache will be performing the song titled “Ela” by a team of worldwide distinguished composers led by Alex Papaconstantinou and comprising of: Arash, Eyelar Mirzazadeh, Fatjon Miftaraj, Filloreta Raci Fifi, Geraldo Sandell, Giorgos Papadopoulos, Robert Uhlmann, Viktor Svensson and Yll Limani. The staging of the entry has been assigned to the internationally acclaimed artistic directors Marvin Dietmann and Dan Shipton.
The music video will be available exclusively on Panik Music, the website and the mobile app of Panik Records, until Friday, March 11. On the same day (Friday, March 11), “Ela” will be released in all legal digital platforms and the music video will premiere on YouTube. A few words for Andromache
Andromache is a young talented singer and songwriter, Andromachi is originally from Lechena and after school she started studying German Philology in Athens while at the same time she started singing initially on music stages in Lechena, Amaliada and Gazi. Her father was a teacher of traditional dances.
She became widely known in 2015, when she participated to the talent show “The Voice 2” and made the difference with her distinctive tone of voice. Her debut single was “To Feggari” (The Moon), written by Giorgos Papadopoulos, one of the hitmakers of the new generation. Unfolding her creative talent, Andromachi presented two singles that she wrote herself, “De Mporo”( I can't) and “Den Se Dialeksa”(i didn't choose you), while her next single “Na Soun Psema” (If only you were a lie) became a huge success, standing out on radio airplay and surpassing 2 millions of YouTube views in a few months.
Her live performances stand out and she has collaborated on stage with some of the biggest name in the Greek music industry, among which Konstantinos Argiros for consecutive seasons, Nikos Vertis and Nikos Oikonomopoulos.
Cyprus in Eurovision
Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with the group Island, achieving an honorable 6th placing in Dublin. Aphrodite’s island has been represented by some of the biggest names in the Greek and Cypriot music industry: Anna Vissi (1982), Michalis Hatzigiannis (1998), Evridiki (1992,1994,2007), Ivi Adamou (2012), Despina Olympiou (2013), etc.
The country achieved its best Eurovision result this year when it placed 2nd with Eleni Foureira’s Fuego. The Greek famous star was selected internally to fly the Cypriot flag at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. Eleni’s explosive performanc on the Altice Arena stage blew away Europe which boosted the country to its highest position ever in the competiton.
In 2019 internally selected Tamta, want to make a strong repeat of last year’s success with her song enttitled , Replay, and through her energetic performance at Expo Tel Aviv accomplished a 13th place for Cyprus, keeping the country on the left side of the final scoreboard.
In 2020, CyBC internally selected Sandro Nicolas to fly the flag in Rotterdam with his entry Running, written by Alfie Arcuri, Sebastian Rickards, Octavian Rasinariu and Sandro himself while the productionwas work of Teo DK. However Sandro never had the chance to perform in Rotterdamam as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Last year, Elena Tsagrinou was internally selected to fly the flag in Rotterdam with her song "El Diablo" which competed in the first semi final and after qualifying to the Grand final finished 16th with a total of 94 points.
