Bulgaria: This is BNT's alternative Eurovision program

  • BNT, Bulgaria's national broadcaster, BNT,  has unveiled its alternative Eurovision schedule for Eurovision week in the place of this year's  cancelled ESC shows .

    Follwing other European broadcasters, BNT, will be airing its own alternative program for Eurovision week  covering the space left after this year’s cancellation of Eurovision.

    BNT has confirmed to air the special show ‘Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light’,  on May 16 , that will be replacing  this year’s cancelled Eurovision final show. The show is co-produced by EBU and the three Dutch Eurovision 2020 host broadcasters (AVROTROS, NOS, NPO) targetting to honor the 41 ESC 2020 representatives that lost the chance to perform in Rotterdam due to the covid-19 pandemic.

    Several past ESC winners are set to take part in the show among which , Katrina and the Waves (UK 1997) , Helena Paparizou (Greece 2005) and Marija Serifovic ( Serbia 2007) .The show will be hosted by Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit

    A week with Eurovision shows!

    Counting down to the ‘Eurovision Show A Light’ BNT will be airing throughout the week a series of  ESC shows. For five consecutive nights the Bulgarian broadcaster will be rebroadcasting past Eurovision shows, the Junior Eurovision 2015 that was hosted in Sofia and will end up with ‘Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light’.

    This is how Eurovision week will unfold on BNT:

    Tuesday, May 12 (21:00 CET) : BNT will air the 2007 edition of Eurovision in Elsinki, giving the chance to the audience to see Elitsa Todorova’s & Stoyan Yankulov’s 5th placing with their entry “Water” .

    Wednesday, May 13 (21:00 CET) : The audience will watch Poli Genova achieving her 4th place in Stockholm as Eurovision 2016 will be rebroadcasted.

    Thursday, May 14 (21:00 CET) : BNT1 will broadcast Junior Eurovision 2015 . The contest was hosted in Sofia and saw Malta ESC 2020 hopeful, Destiny Chukunyere  win the trophy with the song Not my soul .

    Friday, May 15 (21:00 CET) : BNT will pay tribute to the act that brought the country's best result in the contest, Kristian Kostov with Beautiful Mess  who came 2nd in Kiev. Eurovision 2017 will hit the screen hightlighting one of the country's memorable Eurovision moments. 

    Saturday, May 16 (21:00 CET): Eurovision week will  close with the special show ‘Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light’

    This year Victoria Georgieva was selected by BNT to represent the country at Eurovision 2020 with her song “Tears Getting Sober”. Although Victoria’s Eurovision 2020 journey was interrupted by the cancellation due to the covid-19 outbreak, the female act will have a second chance to represent the country next year as BNT confirmed that it will stick with its ESC 2020 hopeful.
