  • The German broadcaster, NDR, has received 3.281 application for the ESC 2025 national selection with the dates of the televised shows have been released.

‘Chefsache ESC 2025 – Who sings for Germany?’ is the format of televised shows  RTL, Stefan Raab, NDR and ARD will be co-organizing to determine the nation's Eurovision 2025 hopeful.

A total of 3,281 applications have arrived in NDR offices with only 24 acts of them making it to the shows' phase. In the preliminary rounds Stefan Raab and an expert jury will be responsible to shortlist the acts during the first three televised shows while the act to travel to Basel will be determined by the public.

According to the NDR press release, the variety of applications is very large. Among the artists, there are not only newcomers who are taking their first steps into the limelight, but also established acts with already considerable careers. Particularly interesting: 1,198 applicants not only sent their vote, but also their own song into the race.

The German national selection for Eurovision 2025 will consist of four televised shows. Specifically,

    1. Three primetime live shows, which will be broadcast on RTL on February 14, 15 and 22, 2025, will serve as preliminary rounds. Under the direction of Stefan Raab and his jury, the best acts will be put through their paces in several rounds.
    2. The grand finale, which will take place live on ARD on 1 March, will then become a "top priority" for the audience: the viewers will have the last word and decide who will enter the ESC ring for Germany.

All four shows will be hosted by Barbara Schöneberger.
